Be Careful who you cheer for part 2
Last week I misspoke on the show saying that if the Bears lost and the Eagles won that the Philadelphia Eagles would then clinch the number 2 seed in the NFC. That was a mistake on my part and instead if you are a Packer fan you then need the complete opposite to happen. Fortunately the Bears won today and if the Eagles lose on Tuesday then the Chicago Bears will clinch the number 2 seed in the NFC meaning they could virtually have nothing to play for next week vs. the Packers.
I'm not saying that I don't have faith in the Packers to beat the Bears if the Bears indeed do have to play for something all I'm saying is it would be nice especially with how beat up NFL teams get by week 17 to not have to play a team at full strength to win a game, especially one this important. It would also serve as a confidence booster for any team going in the playoffs to win, so maybe the Bears will play their starters regardless if they are playing for anything.
So if you are a Green Bay fan then the best case scenario would be Atlanta beating New Orleans and the Vikings beating the Ealges.

To Start or not to Start: Not A Question
After thinking about the debate we had last night about Aaron Rodgers and if the Packers should sit him to protect him from long term damage, I felt like I had to post some more comments on the topic.
First off Rudy says that they should sit Rodgers out because the season is a lost cause, that even if they make it in they are going to be a one and done team. This may look to be true, this is the NFL anything can happen on any given Sunday. I am not going to say that the Packers could be Super Bowl bound but if they catch momentum at the right moment that's just right where they could end up, so in my mind to sit Rodgers out due to the fact that the Packers don't look as sharp right now as they may have at the begining of the year, their is still a chance that they could be sharp again and I am sure that Aaron Rodgers would want to lead them if that happens.
That leads me to another thing that got me thinking about Rudy's comments last night. Rudy says that he cares more about Rodgers health rather than two games. The thing I believe he would be singing a different tune if Rodgers suffered his second concussion back when they were 7-3, would you sit him for the year....or maybe a game...ok MAYBE two.
Last thing about Rudy caring about the long term health of Rodgers or any other player. Not saying he is wrong, I mean his heart is in the right place and all but come on man! Have you ever thought that Rodgers knows the risk and is willing pay some sort of price, this is the NFL, they don't have to ask their mothers to sign permission slips. This might be a cold hearted way to look at it but everyone who suits up in the NFL, or ANY other professional sport knows that there are risks to take and that it could effect you when you retire. Rodgers said this week that when he was away from his team that it was a glimpse of his life after football and he missed the game very much....this is a guy that wants to play now.
I know there are different circumstances with different injuries and situiations (ie the 5-9 Dallas Cowboys and Tony Romo) but Rodgers wants to play now and get in the playoffs this year, like Rudy said every case is different and I feel that the doctors took a look at this situation and seen that the risk is not that much greater for a repeat concusision, so they cleared him.
So Packers fans lets just hope Rodgers and the rest of the team can stay healthy to make it to the post season, win those two games because hey it's not guarentee that you will be in this spot next year or even if they are playing football at all.....Sometimes you just have to live in the moment.

Be carefull who you cheer for?
As the Chicago Bears go into TCF Field to play the Minnesota Vikings tonight a lot of Green Bay Packers fans will be rooting for the Vikings to keep the Pack's division hopes alive, but there might be another way to look at it. I got a text last night from Sports Talk 920's co-host Rudy saying that he is going to cheer for the Bears tonight so that they lock up the division so when the Packers host the Bears in week 17 the Bears would have little to play for, giving the Packers a good chance to get the final wild card spot. Although this might be unorthodox it might not be a terrible way of looking at things, but if the Bears doesn't have the division locked up, they would likely play a lot harder and take away any chance of the Packers would have of making the post season. On the other hand it might not matter because even if they do have the division locked up they still might have something to play for, because depending on how the Eagles play in the last two weeks they might have to play their tails off to hold on to the #2 seed in the NFC playoff race. No matter who you are cheering for which way you are looking at it, sit back relax and enjoy some Monday Night Football.

Studs and Duds week of 11/16/10
Duds:
1. Brett Favre: His 3 picks and 1 lost fumble in a loss against the Bears gives him now a total of 21 on the season.
2. Dallas Cowboys: Even though they won, it took a simple coaching change to light a fire under their rear ends....now they just showed that they do have some talent but just waisted their season. I mean come on it's on thing when you suck and lose, but its really sad when you are stupid and lose!
3. Denny Hamlin: He didn't even lose his points lead but it did get cut in half, but you couldn't tell that by the way he was composed during his post race interview. This is why Rudy and I think Jimmie Johnson will be holding up the Sprint Cup at by Sunday night.
Studs:
1. Philadelphia Eagles: Scoring 59 points against the Redskins at their own home had to be embarrising for McNabb, what was worse is that it was 28-0 just after 1 quarter.
2. Wisconsin Badgers: Wisconsin scored a record number of points against a Big Ten opponent. Their 83-20 win over Indiana was impressive but they have to keep it going if they want to play in the Rose Bowl in January
3. Milwaukee Bucks: After starting 2-5 the Bucks went on a winning streak to win 3 in a row and improve to 5-5.
*The Studs and Duds will be revamped next week on Sports Talk 920 tune in next Tuesday 9pm CST on www.blogtalkradio.com/sportstalk920 to find out more!

Studs and Duds Week of 11/9/10
Duds
1. Jeff Burton: Had an interesting run in with Jeff Gordon during a caution destroying both of their race cars, this lead for a not so pleasent met up with Gordon on the track, and ambulance ride too.
2. Dallas Cowboys: They totally gave up in their 7-45 stomping the Green Bay Packers gave to them Sunday night. This led to Head Coach Wade Phillips to get fired after a 1-7 start, now it is time to see what Jason Garrett can do....
3. Kyle Busch: After spinning on the track Kyle had to have a lengthy pit stop under caustion which forced him to speed off of pit road to beat the pace car to stay on the lead lap. NASCAR didn't like that move so they call Mr. Busch back into the pits and gave him a 1 lap penalty. Well Kyle didn't like that so much so he had to give the NASCAR offical the middle finger which caused him another 2 laps on Sunday and $25K on Monday.
Studs
1. Ichiro Suzuki: The Seattle Mariners RF won his 10 consecutive Gold Golve. Suzuki is now tied with former Mariner great Ken Griffey Jr. and Al Kaline for most Gold Gloves won by an American League outfielder
2. Wisconsin Badgers: After being outplayed in the first half against Purdue and trailing 6-10, The Badgers picked it up in the 2nd half and defeated Purdue by a final score of 34-13.
3. Denny Hamlin: Wins his 8th race of the season at Texas and overtake Jimmie Johnson for the points lead. He now has a 33pt lead with only two races to go, and this doesn't sit very well with Rudy. Will it stick? Only time will tell

Missed Studs and Duds of Sports Talk 920: 10/19/10
Duds
1. Dallas Cowboys: To quote Jim Rome, Dallas will overwelm you with yards and double that with penalties. The Cowboys managed to fall to 1-4 all thanks to stupid mistakes.
2. Jason Campbell: The Oakland Raider quarterback managed to look like their former first round draft pick JaMarcus Russell. He went 8 for 21 and had a QB Rating of 10.7 in the Raiders 9-17 loss against the 49ers.
3. Green Bay Packers: The Pack lost their second straight overtime game in as many weeks, they also lost 3 out of their last 4 games falling to 3-3.
Studs
1. Wisconsin Badgers: The 18th ranked team in the country shocked the #1 ranked team in the country defeating them 31-18.
2. Cliff Lee: He has been pitching lights out thus far this post season for the Rangers, only giving up 2 earned runs in his 4 starts.
3. Jamie McMurray: Clintched his 3rd win of the 2010 season at Lowe's Motor Speedway in the Bank of America 500. He has won at NASCAR's 3 most prestigous tracks this year including Daytona, Indianapolis, and Charolette.

Rudy's Top 5 Heisman candidates Week 4
Every week for the rest of the college football season I am going to try and post what I think are the top 5 Heisman Candidates and brief description of why I rated that player where he is.
1. Kellen Moore QB Boise State- Passed for 370 yards and 2 TD's against Wyoming in a 51-6 blowout. This will be a big week for Boise State and Kellen Moore if they wish to stay in the national spotlight as they play #24 Oregon State in a nationallly televised game Saturday night.
2.Andrew Luck QB Stanford- Already has 10 TD passes on the season with 674 yards passing and 140 yards rushing on the year. Should put up some more big numbers this week against Notre Dame.
3. Denard Robinson QB Michigan- I refuse to put him any higher on my list until Michigan plays a quality opponent. I'm sorry but Notre Dame, UMass, and UConn aren't exactly staggering defences. We'll see how the qb plays against some of the tougher Big 10 defences.
4. Terrelle Pryor QB Ohio State- Hasn't really put up any staggering numbers yet this year does have 6 TD's but he threw 2 ints against a weak Ohio team this past Saturday. If Ohio State keeps winning he will remain in the top 5.
5 John Clay RB Wisconsin- I am going show a little bias here but John Clay is the main reason why Wisconsin is 3-0 right now. He hasn't had as many carries this year but this is due to the Wisconsin coaching staff wanting to keep him fresh throughout the season. Should have another 100 yard running game this week.

AP College Football poll
Last weeks show both Goody and I believed that whoever won the Notre Dame/Michigan game would be ranked although we both agreed they probably wouldn't deserve it just yet. Michigan won the game on a last minute TD 28-24 and low and behold they are ranked 20th in the latest edition of the AP poll. I do not believe when a progam has won a combined 11 games in the past 3 seasons including the first 2 games of this season that they deserved to be ranked so early in the season even if it is Michigan. Take a look at Virgina Tech for example, starting the season at #10 and with Saturday's embarrassing lost to James Madison they fell completely out the of the top 25 and in my opinion should be back in anytime soon.
A few other highlights from the polls, Alabama and Ohio State remain 1 and 2 in the poll and actually pick up more votes and distance themselves from #3 Boise State. Florida fell again to #10 this week after struggling once again this week to South Florida. The ACC which had 5 teams in the Preseason Poll now only have one, Miami which is now ranked #17. Virgina Tech, Georgia Tech, and Florida State all dropped out with losses this weekend.

FIBA World Championships
One thing I wanted to mention on last nights show was the USA world team and the FIBA World Championships. Today the US beat Russia 89-79 to advance to the Semifinals to play Lithuania. Even though The US has done well in the Olympic games they tend to struggle in this tournament and haven't won since 1994. Looks like this year could end that drought as Coach "K" has revamped how the US world team goes about there business in these Championships.

A Lesson Should Be Learned
I just got done watching the Boise St. and Virginia Tech battle tonight, and after I caught my breath for some reason I could only think of one thing....The NFL should learn a lesson from NCAA Football. With the season being on the line for both teams, escpecially for Boise State who has National Championship game hopes, it seems realy crazy that it was the first week of college football and not a bowl game. This is what is so great about college football, every teams season is on the line EVERY WEEK! With each team playing 12 regular season games it makes it very easy for college teams to feel pressure if they get even one loss. Which brings me to my main point, with the NFL wanting to go to 18 regular season games will only water down the sport in the long run. I mean come on like Rudy has said in the program before, people are already complaining when they see more of Curtis Painter under center weeks 16 and 17 rather than legendary QB Peyton Manning. I don't want to rant on this point to long but the NFL wants to unsure fans get their dollars worth by seeing starters every week of the regular season but yet want to add two more games which would more than likely make the situation worse. If they want to make the game of NFL football got back to a 14 game schedule. But the best words I heard on this situation was with a conversation with Goody Sr.....his comments are simply put: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

First post and first upset of the College Football Season!!
Hello everyone this is the BCSpert making his first official post on the blog of ST920.
Utah beats #15 Pittsburgh which is college football's first official upset of the season. After Pittsburgh rallied from 14 points down in the 4th qtr to put the game in overtime Utah freshman Brian Blechen intercepted a pass on the first play from scrimmage in overtime. This set up a field goal which sealed the game for Utah. I do have to say I am a little bit of a Pitt fan due to the fact that I have always been a dave wanstedt fan and hope he can get it going this year in Pitt.

Season 3 of Favre's Indecision gets picked up for another season
Well it's early August football fans know what the means! Training camp, fantasy football drafts, and of course another season of Favre's Indecision 2010 edition. That's right folks it looks like everybody's off season reality show makes it's 2010 debut yesterday when the reports came out that Brett Favre text teammates that he would not be returning for the 2010 NFL season because his recently operated ankle wasn't rehabbing like he had hoped it would.
So what seemed like a sure thing that he was actually done, with all of the sports analyst waiting for the official press release on brettfavre.com, turned into doubt when Viking players denied the report and the fact that Brett Favre did what he does best kept people waiting for the press release. It never came, instead it goes back to what happens every summer, no one knows what the hell this guy is thinking! First you hear that Brett is back in Mississippi throwing balls to high school kids, waiting to see if his ankle is up to the task of another NFL season and the next you hear some people say that he is holding out to get a 3 year contract extension. Those sound like two totally opposite ideas there! Is he nervous to comeback because he's afraid he's healthy enough? Or is he feeling good enough to play another couple of seasons?
I know a lot of people will continue to follow every little thing that comes out of the Favre camp like there might be some truth to it. Some people are just plain sick of all the off season crap and even if they do want to see him play they want him to keep his mouth shut until he actually is going to pull the trigger on a decision. My personal opinion is that Favre is coming back for the 2010 season. He is still just trying to avoid training camp and rehabbing his ankle at his own pace. Favre need just to find a new way to get attention to himself because he "retired" pretty much every other way there is to retire. Favre only feels comfortable when he is making headlines....good or bad.
But I am sick of the Favre crap so I will continue to ignore it and keep watching the Brewers struggle. I am just so happy that the Packers put this problem behind it and I hope all the Viking fans who gave the Packer fans crap about our opinion changes on Favre are now getting nervous. See what it's like when he has your team by the balls? Anyways if you enjoy the Favre Indecision show sit back and enjoy because it will be about 3 weeks of limbo before he lets anyone for whats going on in his head.

Rookie Misunderstood?
Some say that Dez Bryant refusing to carry Roy Williams pads off the field following practice this weekend was a huge thing. They say that it shows disrespect to the veterans on the team and kind of seems like that he is refusing to build chemestry with his teammates.
To me I have to agree with these people to a point, however for the most part I will have to disagree. The only reason this is anything to even right about is because it is one of the biggest named rookie receivers on one of the NFLs biggest teams. If this happened in Buffalo, Jacksonville, hell I bet even New England we would of not even known that it happened, which I am sure it does every single year.
I kind of liked it that he said he is not there to carry pads, and that he was there to concentrate on winning ball games. I know it sounds selfish, but hey he is deticated to winning, and at least he didn't say anything stupid like he wasn't going to carry pads for a guy who he is competing for a starting position over.
It also seems to me by the responses from Roy Williams that Dez Bryant is not refusing to be "hazed" by his verteran teammates but just not by carrying pads, he will make up for that in some other way. I am sure he will be paying for some expensive meals very soon. I don't think that there is a "mess" by refusing to do this other than the media poking their mics and cameras over such a silly issue, if you can even call it that.
So ease up on the kid, he has a lot of pressure being a first round draft pick for a very popular team wearing a sacrid number. There might be a reason he isn't carrying pads. He might be that deticated to over come the hype and actually have a good season as far as expectations are concerned. Thank you media outlets like ESPN to get me fired up about such a wortless topic because like Allen Iverson once said....Practice?....we talking about Practice?

Milwaukee Brewers Don't Need Major Rebuilding
Just to start of this article I am letting everyone know I am writting this as the Milwaukee Brewers are 42-51 currently playing the Pirates with a 3-1 lead. Yes it looks like they will win, and yes it is against the lowly Pirates. Anyways I want to discuss my opinions on what moves they Brewers should make, or maybe I would like to put it....lack of moves.
As far as the guys that are who are heavy in the trade rumors; Prince Fielder, Cory Hart, and Rickie Weeks, the only guy who I would trade out of those three if it were up to me is Prince Fielder. Not so much that I would want to but out of pure necessity. There is pretty much no way that the Brewers could resign him and they might as well get something for him while they still can. The only thing that worries me about this trade as far as doing at sometime in this season is that most teams that are in the race for the post season, they don't have any dire need for the first baseman. So if they can't trade him by the end of the season I would like to see Melvin make a move before opening day 2011 or VERY early in the season.
Rickie Weeks is a guy that I would prefer to stay as well but if they do trade him I
would be ok with that as well. There are times when he is playing 2nd that I wonder what he is thinking, and the other times he looks like the best second baseman in the league. However for any lack of confidence I have for him on defense is all made up for with his heavy bat. He will be a good leader for alot of the young guys coming up ,like Escobar, and is a vital part of the hitting order as the leadoff hitter. If Weeks were to be traded my biggest concern is who would be our lead off hitter?
Cory Hart is a guy I am totally against trading. BUT if the Brewers had interest from a team that is willing to give up the farm for him you can't argue that to much. Alot of his trade value is based on his play since May of this year, but I think he has always been a very decent and for the most part dependable play with his time with the Crew. He is also a guy that wants to stay put and there is a very good chance that if they Brewers don't trade him by the end of the season, that he will be willing to resign with the Brewers without breaking the bank.
To me trading these guys and resetting the core of the Brewers would be kind of dumb. For the most part with the pitching staff needs to be groomed with the likes of Braddock, Loe, Axford and Narveson. They would have to cut ties with the veterans that are kind of dead weight like Hoffman and Hawkins. Manny Para I am kind of up in the air about because he seems like a lost cause but you can still see signs of potential. Gallardo and Bush in my eyes are guys that the Brewers need to keep for the pitching staff to move forward.
Anyways as far as the active roster I would just cut the fat rather than resetting it. To me might be the coaching staff, mainly the pitching coach. Ever since the Brewers lost Maddox after the '08 season the Brewers pitching staff has been week. So if I were Doug Melvin I would trade Fielder while I can keep Weeks and Hart, and ride the wave to the offseason and maybe try to improve my coaching staff. Hey who knows even though the Brewers are 9 games under .500 so far this season, who knows, this is baseball.....anything can happen

NASCAR Cars to be featured in Transformers 3!
Prove your worth: Justin Harrell
It's pretty obvious that since Justin Harrell came to Green Bay as their 1st round pick (16th overall) he has been a bust. Since 2007 he has played only 13 games started 2 with 28 tackles and has yet to record a sack. His career has been injury filled missing half of the 2007 season with torn biceps that happened back in his days in Tennessee. In 08 Harrel spent training camp on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list. On August 25, he was placed on the Reserve/PUP list, forcing him to miss the first 6 weeks of the regular season, until he was activated replacing Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila. Finally in 09 he injured his back in training camp forcing him to miss the entire 2009 NFL season.
Now its go time. With the indefinate suspension of Johnny Jolly the Green Bay Packers don't have the depth to wait for Harrell to be heathy. He needs to man up and prove he can still salvage a decent NFL career. Most people know that Harrell has the talent to perform well, now for the Packers and even his own sake they can only hope that his body is not longer like glass. He will also have to get playing time over guys like rookie Mike Neal. One prediction, though, that I will make that if Harrell stays heathy he will be a vital part of the Green Bay Packers defense in 2010 and shadow the years of bust talk.
Classless Carl Once Again
It was no doubt that Brad Keslowski and Carl Edwards were the class of the field in the Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers 250 Nationwide Series race at Gateway, until Carl Edwards ran out of class. What looked like it was going to be a drag race to the checkard flag turned quickly when Carl intentionally turned into Brad right before the checkered flag causing a 10 car pile up.
Well at least Carl did one thing right this time, he did it for a win. My biggest problem is that Carl lies through his teeth to make himself sound like the good guy, or simply "doing what he had to do." In my mind that is total and pure bullshit. He says that Brad was the aggressor and hit him going into turn and he just reacted to that by turning him on the front stretch. Ok, Carl, you couldn't do the bump and run yourself? He also said that he wants to race Brad clean. Really? Carl it sure does seem like it when you pile drive him in the wall. He also said that Brad has to learn not to but him in bad situations, of course trying to make Brad look like the bad buy. CARL! Look at the situation that you are putting Brad, you competitors, and your teammates that were all collected in the wreck!
I think Carl is the one with aggressor problems that seems to be slowly leaking out through the years, from trying to punch Matt Kenseth in a arguement to picking on Brad Keslwoski, I think it is showing now more that even that there is way more to this roid rage hot heat that meets the eye. Like they always said actions speak louder than words and Carl Edwards actions are starting to speak of his character more than that "sexy" smile.

The Fan(s)
If you tuned into last weeks episode of Sports Talk 920, you may or may not have noticed at the end of the show when I brought up the hot streak that the Brewers were on during interleague play, Rudy seemed to be a little disturbed by this. He said that since the Brewers turned it around during the 2007 season that there were a lot of "fair weather" fans out there that came out of the woodwork, and didn't give them the time of day when they were consistantly a 6th place team.
While I will have to agree that the Brewers have gained fans since the 07 season (what team doesn't when they start winning?), I can't fully agree that all of them are "fair weather" fans. There are a lot of different kind of fans out there, some of which I will give examples as follows:
FAIR WEATHER FAN: This type of fan only roots for a team when they are winning, they will root for their particular team like crazy when times are good, but the first sign of trouble they are no where to be found.
WAGON JUMPER: While very close to a "fair weather" fan while the times are good, when the times are bad for one team they don't just go hide....oh no they pack up the wagons and go root for another team that is having better times ahead of them.
THE NEW FAN: Shockingly this fan can come about in many different ways, one of which is when a hometown team is winning in a sport they don't usually root for starts doing well, this fan starts to watch the games and starts getting hooked and becomes a fan of the team and the sport. Another way the new fan comes about is a fan going to their first game after not caring much about the sport before going. After they get into it they have become hooked.
DIE HARD FAN: Not much to say here, except that this fan eats, sleeps, and shits their teams colors.....no matter what.
KNOWLEDGEABLE FAN: A knowledeable fan roots for his or her team, but also the game itself. Their knowledge goes beyond the team that they root for and to the entire league the sport they are rooting for. Usually not one to be messed with during sports trivia.
PESSIMISTIC FAN: While to some it may seem on the surface that this type of fan is a "fair weather" fan it actually goes alot deeper than that. This type of fan usually always follows or watches their team no matter what, however signs of rough outtings during an event will cause this fan to turn the channel or leave the game. During bad seasons they have a very hard time seeing anything good with their team, most likely they will want their team to hit the reset, or in most peoples mind panic, button.
OPTIMISTIC FAN:This fan is the vitual opposite of the "pessimistic fan" They always see the good in the team, they will think their team has a shot at the win until the final gun. They keep their attention on the team pretty much no matter what.
While there are many other types of fans out there I just wanted to hit a few. Maybe you fall under one of these categories or maybe you don't. My only point is, before we call these new Brewers fans "fair weather" fans, know that a lot of these fans might not be going anywhere.

Danica vs. Morgan, Just as I predicted :P
Although I didn't exactly predict what was going to happen on Saturdays Nascar Nationwide Series race at Loudon, here is a tweet I made after qualifying and before the race:
Morgan vs Danica, @st920 vs @Jeff_gluck so much on the line for todays New England 200! The only missing is the heavyweight posters #NASCAR
11:17 AM Jun 26th (Note the time was before the start of the race)
It all started when NASCAR writer for sbnation.com kept tweeting about how Danica Patrick was running midpack in qualifying while stating Brad Keselowski earned the pole. Me being sick of all the Danica Patrick overhype told him to start talking about other guys who run in the back of the pack like fellow Nationwide driver Morgan Shepard. Jeff did agree that Morgan would finish better than Danica and I understand he talks about her a lot because it's what that's what getting attention right now.
Anyway, I just found it funny that after all that, this is what happened early in the race:

Chicago Cubs suspend starting pitcher Carlos Zambrano
The Chicago Cubs suspend Pitcher Carlos Zambrano indefinately after blowing up at 1B Derrick Lee, when a ball went over his head when Lee was playing for the bunt. General manager Jim Hendry is quoted by saying, "He will not be at the ballpark tomorrow. We'll play with 24. We'll play with 24 before we tolerate that kind of behavior."
The only question I have is this is not the first Zambrano has show behavior like this, so why have the Cubs put up with his childish acts before? He has always has been know as a hot head, and he just further displayed it today. And Carlos if for some strange reason you read this, your temper is almost as bad as your play as of late, before you rip on your teammates look at yourself.
Anyways Sports Talk 920 fan incase you missed it here is the video of Carlos acting like a child:

State Park Speedway is back!
I haven't been going to State Park Speedway for to many years, but I had been going long enought to know that the track was in trouble....serious trouble.
When I first started going to the track about 10 years ago or so, there were about 4 classes with each at least having 10 cars each. That may not sound to bad to most, however when there biggest class was Super Stocks ,which is a 2nd teir class for many of the big tracks around Wisconsin, it doesn't bring in much of a crowd.
With fewer people in the seats meant far less revenue for the track and the condition of the track along with the consession stands and restrooms it clearly showed. The track had grass growing in the cracks, a lot like the abandoned North Wilksboro Speedway. The restrooms man they werew bad, when taking a pee you had to go in a troth which was kinda like a rain gutter that drained your stuff to the middle, which made the bathrooms stink and very unpleasent.
Eventually it got to the point were there were maybe 4 or 5 cars per class, so who pretty much won the heat races in their class was going to end up in victory lane in the feature. While might be good for a betting man, it wasn't very good at all for the racing fan.
Fan attendance along with poor car count pretty much made the track all but close down having about 4 to 5 races the entire season and they even lost their flagship race the Larry Detjens Memorial race to Golden Sands one year and Slinger the next. To boot even when they did have races they still couldn't draw in competitors or fans to show up during their event.
Then last November rolled around, when all seems lost for the speedway, Ron Wimmer and his son, current Nationwide Series driver, Scott Wimmer purchased the track which gave the track and maybe, just maybe a future.
Well it did just that! I just got back from watching the 2010 Flip Merwin Memorial at that track and all I have to say is I am impressed. This 1/4 mile track was always set up for good racing and when you now have 15-20 cars per class make it to events this year it shows. Not to mention that they have expanded the schedule from a4 to 5 races to about every other Thursday. On other big improvement was the bathrooms, new bar area, and the grass on the track is gone! When I went to park at tonights event I had to park about 1/4 mile away from the track because the parking lot and side streats where full of cars of spectators who wittnessed tonights race.
So if you can get to Wausaus on Thursday nights and love to watch some great local track racing be sure to stop by State Park Speedway this 2010 racing season! Oh and by the way the Larry Detjens Memorial is back home to where it all started and will be held there July 29th.

Congrats to Team Buck!
Congratulations to the Silver Dollar Saloon Softball Team (aka Team Buck) on getting their second win of the season! They defeated Team Finish Line 15-9. Wins for the team are hard to come by at this point of the season as it was only their second win of 6 games played so far, but the boys had the bats cracking and for the most part played some solid defense. So if you are in the Eau Claire area on Tuesdays nights stop by Altoona City Park and see host of Sports Talk 920 Michael and Jason fight for another victory for Team Buck! FEAR THE DEER THAT DRINK BEER!

Vince Young Strip Club Incident
Well just by looking at Vince Young's actions in the following video, I'm thinking that at least a four game suspension is well in line for him. To me this is by far worse than Big Ben's case, here they have visual evidence of his actions. It was a very foolish thing to do over someone poking fun at his college alumni.

Studs and Duds 6/2/10
Since we didn't get to the Studs and Duds section of the show tonight I figured, hey we have a blog should post them on here! So here are Michael's Studs and Duds for the week of 6/2/10
Duds
1. MLB Umpire Jim Joyce for blowing the call to rob a perfect game for Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga
2. Jimmie Johnson spins out by himself and wrecks to finish in the 37th position
3. Green Bay Packers Johnny Jolly, things are not looking to good for him in court right now.
Studs
1. Phillies Pitcher Roy Holliday for pitching the 20th perfect game in MLB history
2. Chip Ganassi for being the first owner in motorsports history to win the Daytona 500 and the Indy 500 in the same season
3. Ken Griffy Jr. calling it a career after 22 season and 630 hr

Joyce and Galarraga still might make history
Well Detroit Tigers pitcher Galarraga didn't get to be the 21st pitcher to throw a perfect game in history, or the 4th one to do so in less than a years time. It was a blown call by Jim Joyce in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs, who called Jason Donald safe even though it looked that Galarraga covered first in time to get the out.
This might not of been the way Galarraga wanted to be remember be he just might be the guy people will remember when MLB finally puts in a replay system. I know this is something we here at Sports Talk 920 have been screaming for since our birth last October, so I will let the video speak for itself

Leave Tiger Alone
With the PGA's Masters coming up, it is marking the return of Tiger Woods. It will be the first tournament he played in since his accident the day after Thanksgiving. There is one thing I am going to ask Tiger and that is go out and kick some ass. As a professional golfer thats all I can ask him to do.
With all the reports of who Tiger has slept with popping up left and right, with the latest being his 21 year old neighbor girl, many people say they are disappointed in Tiger because he failed to be a role model....REALLY? Is that what he is expected to do? You know just because you are a professional athlete who excells at your sport doesn't automatically mean you have to be a role model.
My point being is that no one should look up to Tiger squeeky clean or not and want to be exactly like him, be yourself, inspire to play like him instead. Now I am not agreeing with ANYTHING that Tiger did, cheating on your wife is wrong, but not illegal. So media people and fans, let the guy alone, let him work out his private life privately and let the man play golf.

2010 NASCAR Saturday Night Special- Larry Pearson's near fatal accident
Larry Pearson, 56, was knocked unconscious and suffered a compound fracture of his left ankle, a fractured pelvis and a fractured right hand. The speedway reported he was in fair condition Monday before being released from Bristol Regional Medical Center late Monday afternoon and transported to Charlotte, where he was to be admitted to Carolinas Medical Center, obviously with a long recovery ahead of him.
Charlie Glotzbach, 71, managed, with help, to walk to an ambulance after the accident. He was gingerly holding his left arm and wearing an oxygen mask. But he was so beat up in the wreck that he remained hospitalized at the Bristol hospital Monday, two days after the accident, though reportedly in good condition.

Edwards put the Ball in NASCAR's Court.
Before the start of the 2010 season NASCAR came out and said they were going to let the drivers express their own personalities and let the drivers work out on track issues amoung themselves. The incident between Carl Edwards and Brad Keslowski was not what they had in mind. I know what some of you are thinking, NASCAR set themselves up for this and it's their fault that the car flip and not Edwards. I agree with that to a point but NASCAR took action to prevent the cars from fliping by removing the wing and replacing it with the spoiler. Another thing by putting the "policing" in the drivers hands you would have to think they thought they had drivers that were smarter than Mr. Edwards.
First of all the incident that happend earlier in the race when Carl Edwards came down across Brad Keslowski's front bumper shooting him across the track and into the wall with Joey Lagano was entirely Edwards fault. If you look close at the replay you can see that Edwards failed to hold his own line and Keslowski backed off as much as he could because he didn't want to end up getting run over by Bobby Labonte due to a mistake that Edwards made. Yeah Carl I know its frustrating not winning a race in over a year, but face it both run ins with Keslowski were due to the fact that YOU didn't give HIM enough room, not the other way around.
If the first incident even was Keslowski's fault there are a lot better ways to police it. You can come up and confront him after the race and threaten to kick his ass, you have big enough guns to beat up the scrawny Keslowski. Another way is to drive up to him under a caution hit one of his fenders and wreck Keslowski's shot at running up front, again another chicken way to do things but still better to what was done. Even while running besides him today if Edwards washed up the track forcing Keslowski to hit the was, again ruining his shot at a top ten run. Or my favorite wait when Edwards would actually be racing with Keslowski for position at a short track where they will be going half the speeds and take him out then. At leas then it would seem less obvious and probably prevent Edwards a trip to the NASCAR hauler after the race. To me it just doesn't seem right spining a guy out when you are 150 laps down and do it on the fastest part of the track.
I feel that the only way to teach the drivers to police themselves but not act like apes when they do it is by suspending Carl Edwards for at least one race. I all for NASCAR letting the drivers show there emotion but when that is your reaction after sitting behind the wall for more than an hour after the first incident I think you really need to get your head checked out Mr. Edwards. I know you didn't mean for Keslowski to flip and I'm sure my anger over the situation is due to the severity of the wreck but really what do you think just might happen when you turn a guy going speed around 200 mph. Carl Edwards your reaction warrants you not only being a dud on this weeks show, you also deserve an EPIC FAIL!

McNabb or McFlabb?
As the NFL Free Agent singing period getting closer, there are many rumors going around. One of those rumors say that the Philadelphia Eagles have long time quarterback Donovan McNabb on the trading block. While there are a lot of Eagles fans who think his run is done, there are aslo a lot of people who appricate the accomplishments that McNabb has had with the Eagles and would like him to stick around for a few more years.
Since my team (Green Bay Packers) are just a couple of years removed from a simular situation, my opinion is that it is about time that the Eagles part ways with good ol #5. I do think that he is a good quarterback yet, but I feel Donovan is stuck in what I would call "bad habits in big games" and maybe the best thing for both the Eagles and McNabb is for them to split up.
One main thing that bothers me about McNabbs play as of late is that there are times he doesn't seem to take the game as serious as he should. Take the 2009 NFC Wildcard game against the Dallas Cowboys, when he walke out of the tunnel at Cowboys Stadium doing the air guitar dance and beating on the plexi glass wall. What was that about?! Don't for get about the overtime game against the lowly Bengals when he "forgot" the overtime rules and the fact that 1. he didn't try his hardest and 2. he didn't seem to be bothered or concerned that he didn't know the rules, like he didn't even give a damn.
It also seems that ever since Jason spoke of this on the show it seems that every other pass McNabb throws it fall in the dirt way short of his intended target. And like I said out of the 6 Pro Bowls that he has played in he has only been elected to two of them.
Although this may seem like a rant on how I think McNabb is crappy. Untrue, I think that he has always been and still is a very good quarterback. I just think that if McNabb goes to a teams like the Rams, Vikings (if Favre retires), Bills, or even the Raiders, his habits that he in known for, would be better for those teams than the alternative of not having a quarterback of his calibur, than if he performed the same way with the Eagles. McNabb has reached long past his peak in Philly, but hey you never know, he could be like Favre and with a fresh scenery have one of the better years for his career. Plus the Eagles know that they can still with a still learing Kevin Kolb. That is why I think the Eagles should cut the McFlabb and trade McNabb
