And the winner by knockout........

I grew up watching boxing. Always enjoyed it to a certain extent, but after watching the Pacquiao vs. Cotto fight in the later rounds reminds me of one of the biggest reasons that boxing is way behind the eight ball to MMA.

Don't get me wrong the first 8 rounds were very enjoyable and entertaining to watch, but as it always seems to be the last 4 rounds was nothing but tangling together or running around the ring the entire time. C'mon MAN!! This is not what the fans want to see! At that point I would of rather seen the fight called than waist my night watching Miguel Cotto run around the ring the latter rounds, and it even seemed like Manny Pacquiao was thinking the same thing.

In a sport that is losing fans to MMA, they have to remember the last thing they see in a fight is the thing that they will remember the most. You could hear the displeasure in the crowd booing at Cotto for avoiding Pacquiao, and I think that's what a lot of the fans are going to take home with them.

In few MMA fights that I've watched compared to Boxing, it seems like every second of the fight is crucial to the outcome of the fight. I believe one of the reasons this might be so is because MMA fights are a lot shorter and their is a sense of urgency. So on that same token i think one of the ways to make boxing better is to either make the rounds shorter, or have less rounds. Make them go out there and earn it for every second worth of the fight!

Don't get me wrong, I'm still going to be jacked up to see the Mayweather vs.
Pacquiao that is for sure to come. I just think for the durability of the sport they need to look at making some major changes. But until then I will have to take it as it is and hope that boxing doesn't die off all together

-Thanks for Reading, Michael

Ignorance Is Bli... Baseball.

How do I start this piece and not just continually bash baseball into the ground, it is hard. It is really hard. It seems ever increasingly that the MLB has continued to magnify its own shortcomings. How has baseball done that? Well maybe it’s not MLBs fault, maybe it’s the makers of high definition televisions, and DirecTV? Nah, it’s clear that it’s Bud Selig and the MLB’s fault.

Now more than ever, baseball needs to expand its instant replay beyond homerun calls. “Instant replay would destroy the integrity of the game!” you say? Would taking a second look at a play to get it correct be more damaging to the integrity of the game than say, a blown call on an infield catch that appeared to be caught but actually short-hopped into the players glove? I don’t think so.

“Human error is part of the game!” a colleague of mine argues, but I disagree. While, there is a small amount of interpretation and judgment in the call of balls and strikes, it should not be judgment as to whether the ball hits the ground or is caught. There should not be any human error on whether the ball is foul or fair.

What it comes down to is the fact that with HDTV, the number of cameras and technology that allows the fans and viewers to see multiple views on almost any play, means that we need to be able to use this technology to get the calls correct. If a ball is foul, it needs to be called foul, likewise if it is fair it should be called fair. It’s disheartening to watch a replay of a play and clearly see that the call on the field is wrong and there is nothing we can do to correct it.

There is no perfect solution, and like many replay systems, it will take time to evolve and grow into a system that has very few kinks. I tell you now though, MLB, it is time for more instant replay.

Monday Morning Quarterback

G'Afternoon SportsTalk fans. I'm sure everyone is still recovering from an exciting Sunday of football and baseball, unless your are from Cleveland, Miami, and Tampa as you may never recover.

This week Mike went 7 for 12 on his Sunday picks, and I went 10 for 12, and we both have the Eagles beating the Redskins tonight.

Huge impact this week on the football power rankings, as Vikings, Giants and Falcons all fall this week, and the top team(s) in the AFC continue to roll(Colts win, Broncos on bye).

BIG WEDNESDAY this week. Game 1 of the world series: NY Yankees vs Philadelphia Phillies!

But also this Wednesday, we will be on air on "Bye-Week 920" still hosted on blogtalkradio.com under a slightly different channel this week only, then we will be back on our normal channel.

That is all for now, any comments or suggestions should be directed towards: sportstalk920@gmail.com

Get ready for a great day of football! Today's games are full of implications. Vikings look to go 7-0 but face a tough opponent in the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mike's Raiders look to chain together consecutive wins, with their effort against the rookie-lead New York Jets.

Second place in the NFC North looks to bee up for grabs today, when both the Packers and Bears look for a win. Bears take on the unlikely 4-2 Bengals while the Packers are hoping to steamroll the flu-ridden Browns; will Mangenius rally the troops and upset the Packers?

TIME FOR FOOTBALL!!

Show Time Tonight! Sports Talk 920 @ 10:30 PM

Hello sports fans! Just a quick blog before the show tonight. Looks like some big news brewing! Lots of baseball, lots of football, and lots of you tonight!

Manny hits the showers before end of the game 4 with Dodgers, Phillies lead series 3-1.

Yankees look like they are in total control of the ALCS 3 games to 1.

Instant replay in baseball... C'mon Bud!

NFC East go 0-3 this weekend, exposed or overrated?

NFC North, 'The Cut' is a Bear long term and Ahman puts the Green back in Green Bay Packers! Okay that was cheesy, but Mr. Fumbles(no, not Adrian "AD" Pedestrian) is back in Green Bay after being out of football since Feb.

Finally... Power Rankings!

IT'S A FOOTBALL MONDAY!

What a weekend! Some very interesting football story lines forming this past Sunday.

Patriots routing the winless Titans 59-0.

The NFC bEAST was tamed with losses by the Giants, Redskins, and Eagles. Cowboys survived the bye-week without a loss.

Both the Redskins and Eagles have issues to work out. Jim Zorn has be relieved of his play calling duties in Washington, McNabb is calling timeouts that he doesn't have(more situational ineptness on his part) and the injuries are stacking up.

New Orleans appears to have their collective foot on the accelerator and ran over the Giants with ease. This could shake up the power rankings for Wednesday's show!

I went 7-8 in my noon-game picks and predict the Broncos to fall to the Chargers tonight 28-16

Big win by Houston over the Bengals, and like I said on last weeks show, I wasn't sold on their defense, and my feelings were confirmed this past Sunday.

Finally, six weeks+ in to the season, the parity among the teams in the NFL is astounding. I feel like any week, any team could lay an egg or play way above their heads and pull out an unlikely victory. Should continue to be an intriguing season!

-Jason

PS. Look for the Dodgers to tie up the series 2-2 tonight. Score: 7-3 Dodgers.

Hey all! This is Jason from Sports Talk 920 Radio Show. I've set up this sports blog so that you can follow us 7 days a week not just once a week on Wednesdays! This past Wednesday we had a blast with our inaugural show. We still have some kinks to work out but everything went pretty smoothly. I have since fixed my squeaky chair.

Anyways I encourage all of you to tune into our next show: Wednesday October 14, 2009 at 10:30 PM Central Time. The url to get to our show is: www.blogtalkradio.com/sportstalk920

You can also follow us on twitter and facebook! Facebook: Sports Talk 920 Radio Show

This past weeks show we discussed the excitement surrounding Minnesota the past weekend (Twins games and the MNF game between Favre and the Packers). We were unable to get through all our topics so we will go over our top 5 power rankings for the NFC and AFC, we will talk NBA as they get under way. I'm sure there will be a few story lines to cover from this weekend as well.

Finally: GO BADGERS!
